The guest speaker at our next Heartbeats Hibiscus Coast meeting on Tuesday 5th September is Harvey Walsh, PhD candidate and researcher on atrial fibrillation, at Auckland University Medical Sciences Faculty.
Harvey Walsh, PhD candidate and researcher on atrial fibrillation, at Auckland University Medical Sciences Faculty will be giving an informal, brief presentation on atrial fibrillation, dementia and current research directions at our hibiscus coast group meeting in September.
Harvey specialises in cardiovascular physiology and his research is on assessing the effects of atrial fibrillation on the blood vessels in the brain.
Unfortunately, those with persistent AF have a 4x greater risk of dementia at a mature age, than those of the general population. Harvey’s research is aimed at understanding the mechanisms and effect of AF on the brain, in order to, one day, be able to reduce this risk.
This is an Informal group meeting about sharing personal experiences, learning from others and gaining information on heart disease and heart health.
This event will be on Tuesday the 5th of September from 10:00-11:00am at the Hibiscus Coast Community House, 219 Hibiscus Coast Highway, Orewa (behind Estuary Arts Centre).
Join us for a highly interesting discussion on a very important topic for heart event survivors.
All heart event survivors and their immediate family are welcome.
The talk will be very interesting, informal and you can ask Harvey any questions about AF – please bring plenty along!
